Background of Cultural Relations
Republic of the Philippines

Diplomatic Relations officially started in 1964 between Iran and the Philippines.

Iranian ambassadors in Japan acted as accredited ambassadors to the Philippines until 1977, when the Iranian Embassy in the Philippines was opened on the same year. Since then, ten envoys as Charge de Affairs were assigned in Manila.

The Cultural Relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of the Philippines started on January 20, 1990 with the opening of the Cultural Section of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Manila and was further developed with the signing of the Cultural Agreement between these two nations in 1996.

This made room for more cooperation in matters concerning culture, arts and sports as well.

The Cultural Agreement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of the Philippines was signed on March 11, 1995 and was ratified by the Iranian Parliament in 1997. It was approved by Iran’s Guardian Council ten days later and was further put in action.

The Draft of Cultural Exchange also was prepared by the Islamic Republic of Iran and initiated by both countries.

Hereby, pertinent documents regarding the Cultural Agreement between the I. R. of Iran and the Republic of the Philippines, as well as the suggested Cultural Exchange Program are attached.
